Meet the Staff
Karyn Lathan
Campaign Manager
After 20 years in law enforcement and corrections, Karyn has spent the last 5 years working and volunteering with victim services organizations. She is the Chairman of the Chandler Domestic Violence Commission, Program Manager for the Phoenix Anti-Violence Program and Member of the Arizona Coalition of Victim Services.
Karyn says: “I’m tired of watching BP and other “big money” businesses receive tax breaks and government subsidies while they ruin our environment and strangle our economy. Rebecca will fight for what’s right. That’s important to me."
Gary J. Bowen
Director of Communications
Gary has over 14 years experience in both small business ownership and corporate management. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Masters in Adult Education & Training. He has worked with Habitat for Humanity and volunteers at a local community center. Gary had been a die-hard Republican up until the last election when he became frustrated with Washington and became a swing-voter. Now a registered Democrat, Gary is dedicated to helping find solutions for the challenges our nation faces.
Gary says: “It’s time to ‘shake the tree’ and get the dead weight out of Congress. Rebecca’s passion for her community and proactive approach to solving problems is a far cry from what we are getting from Jeff Flake.”
Mary S. “Susie” Thornton, RN, LNC
Treasurer
Susie is a Legal Nurse Consultant with a plaintiff law firm and a former hospital risk manager and compliance officer. She has 24 years experience as a Registered Nurse, earning her degree after thirteen years as a stay-at-home-mom. She has extensive experience as secretary-treasurer for a variety of volunteer organizations. Susie is a life-long Democrat and supporter of progressive values. Now she is committed to working toward finding solutions to the problems faced by our nation.
Susie says: "Rebecca will represent the citizens of Congressional District 6 with a fresh practical approach, in contrast to the “vote no on everything” tactics of Jeff Flake. I am convinced Rebecca is the right person to work hard for the PEOPLE instead of for the big corporations.”
Betty Sharpe
Volunteer Coordinator
Background: Now retired, Betty worked for six years in the sales & marketing department of the Arizona Republic. Prior to that, she worked for 15 years in sales and marketing with several major computer companies. Betty was a registered Republican for 35 years.
Betty says: "I became a Democrat 3 years ago because Rebecca convinced me that the vision and goals of the Democratic Party, and Rebecca in particular, truly represent the best interests of everyday people. Rebecca will actually work for constituents in CD 06 -- something Flake hasn’t done for 10 years."
Larry D. Cassady
Director of Field Data
Larry has over 9 years of experience in logistics and production administration.
He has a Bachelor’s degree with a dual major in Business and Communication. He believes in well funded public safety and is working on increasing the presence of law enforcement.
Larry says: “I support Rebecca because she will be the voice of the people we so desperately need in our government.”
Jo Namio
Webmaster
Jo Namio is a web developer/designer with over 20 years experience designing and developing educational, promotional and business materials for print and for the web. She was Co-Chairperson for the Minnesota Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign, and a convention delegate for two state Democratic conventions in the State of Minnesota. She has volunteered for multiple local, state and national Democratic campaigns over the last 25 years.
